New to Natives Track- Session Descriptions
Breakout #1: Creating a Culture of Native Plant Restoration with Jim Tolstrup
Drawing on material from the book Suburbitat: restoring nature where we live, work, and play, this presentation will focus on building consensus and support among various stakeholders, partners, and neighbors to create sustainable landscapes that help to conserve resources and restore native biodiversity.
Breakout #2: A Seasonal Perspective on Community Engagement and Native Plant Availability with Maggie Gaddis and Kristine Johnson
The biggest problem we face today is the lack of native plants available for gardening. This is a crisis of community that we can solve. Maggie will describe how we can work together to build a seasonal approach to native plant resource development. This is no secret! But we are so busy doing it, we don't take the time to describe the process. I hope to tell that story here.
Breakout #3: Your Native Plant Garden, All Grown Up! With Dave Sutherland
Planning a new native landscape? What awaits your garden when it “grows up?” Dave Sutherland has a 27-year old native plant garden that has changed over the years, as plants moved around as if with a mind of their own, got huge! - and laughingly wreaked havoc on landscape plans. Learn about opportunities, challenges and surprises that you’ll face as your garden comes of age and asserts itself.
